I rarely fry foods because i cannot stand the smell that turns my house into a greasy spoon and I am always scratching my head with how I should get rid of the fat ! I was recently sent an Absorb bin by Lakeland and made aware of the crap that actually gets poured down our sinks each year, not only causing expensive repair damage if we bugger our pipes up, but the Ecological impact is not kind as well !
Did you know that in the North west alone, they pour an average of 2.9 million stone of fat down the plughole ( which is the weight of over 243,000 UK adults !!
Anyway, this clever bit of kit, which is a fab size to store, is a little magic bin that you pour your fat or oil into and the supersonicbionic material, soaks up the fat, leaving you to freely pop it in the bin and not in the sink, which would save you getting a Fat-berg in your pipes!.
After I made a batch of Scotch eggs, I thought this would be a fab time to test out the Absorb bin, so when the fat had cooled enough, I popped it into the trap and let the magic happen !
After 7 minutes…….
Although this didn’t take the smell of cooking oil away, this Absorb bin did make it a lot easier to rid the oil !.
These fat trappers are available at Lakeland and are not a bad price at £7.49 with fat trapper refills £1.49 for three.
Now would you fancy winning £100 pounds in shopping vouchers ?, Sure you would !
With this in mind United Utilities thought it would be a great time to highlight the issue while also helping to solve a much debated issue – what exactly is the best way to make the perfect roast potato (there are in fact over 16 million Google page results for ‘perfect roast potatoes’!)
Should we use goose fat, dripping, olive oil or simply a bit of butter? Who knows, but UU would like to find out what people think while also giving a gentle reminder that whatever does make the perfect roastie, the perfect way to dispose of leftover fats is not to pour it down the drains.
United Utilities is therefore launching the ‘My Roastie Photie’ competition, asking people to post a photo of their perfectly cooked roast potato with the hashtag #binfat2winthat – giving five people the chance to bag £100 of food vouchers.
The competition closes on the 8th of January, so get cooking your spuds and impress for a chance to win the Vouchers !
