These days, every penny counts, and when it comes to buying chicken and other meat for your family, shopping for Lidl chicken can be a great way to save money. In this post we are going to share the full range of chicken available at Lidl. Please note that prices in the photos are accurate as of March 2023, but of course these are subject to change.
Who is Lidl?
Lidl is a global chain of discount supermarkets in Europe.
The first store was opened in Germany in 1973 by the Lidl-Werke Karl Albrecht GmbH.
Lidl is often compared to Aldi, although they are in fact different stores, offering alternative brands and different pricing.
Chicken at Lidl
The chicken at Lidl is 100% Red Tractor assured.
This means that it has been responsibly sourced from dedicated farms (British or Scottish) that operate within within strict food hygiene, animal welfare and environmental guidelines.
It is RSPCA assured, and each pack will display a ‘welfare window’ showing where the chicken was raised.
The range of Lidl chicken includes whole chickens in a variety of sizes.
There’s also a variety of prepared chicken either with the bone, without the bone or minced.
Lidl chicken also comes in a variety of sizes.
Lidl whole chickens
Whole chickens are usually where you get the cheapest price per kg, but that’s because you are also paying for the bones.
A whole chicken is a great choice for a Sunday roast and the leftovers can be used in a variety of meals.
The whole chickens from Lidl come in medium for 3-4 servings.
They also come in extra large.
And large for 4-5 servings.
Lidl Free Range chicken
You might be surprised to find that Lidl do have free range chicken available.
You can also find free range whole chickens at Lidl – these are individually priced and in March 2023 it was £4.69 per kg. Tesco charge £6.20 per kg for their free range whole chicken.
You can also get a pack of 2 free range chicken breast fillets for £4.15, or £12.77 per kg. In comparison, Tesco charge £16.50 per kg for their free range chicken breast fillets.
Lidl chicken – boned
For bone in chicken there are plenty of options. Boned chicken tends to be more moist and can save lots of money.
There are chicken wings.
As well as chicken drumsticks.
One of my favourites is the chicken legs. These are great if you want to make a chicken tray bake or use in a roast dinner.
Another firm favourite is the chicken thighs which come in an extra large pack or…
A 1kg pack. Again these are really moist and lend themselves well to many recipes like a chicken tray bake.
Chicken breast fillets at Lidl
Chicken breast fillets are a popular choice for many, especially anyone who cannot stand bones in their chicken.
Lidl have a great selection in various sizes.
Starting off with a small 300g pack.
You can also choose a medium 650g pack.
The large pack of chicken breasts is 1kg.
And there is an extra large 1.6kg pack.
Or the massive bumper pack is 2kg.
There are also mini fillets available.
As well as diced chicken breast – a large pack is 600g.
Or there is a medium pack which is 400g.
