When it comes to choosing between Aldi vs Lidl, how on earth do you decide which discount supermarket to try out first?
Our favourite is Lidl, but we thought that we would ask others which store they prefer in Aldi vs Lidl.
Nyxie from Nyxie’s Nook says: “I love Lidl and we always shop there. This is mostly because it’s cheaper than a lot of other stores near us, I like the variety of food – some of which you wouldn’t find in the stores around us. And our local CAs in lidl are always so nice and friendly. Not to mention I know that the local lidl is a friendly work environment and compared to other retail stores in the area, their employee pay/ benefits is far better.”
Terri from The Strawberry Fountain says: “I prefer to do my shopping in Aldi because I find the products are better value for money, even the named brands are cheaper than when bought from other supermarkets. I also love their own brand of coffee and their dupes of things like the subway rolls.”
Anna from In the Playroom says: “I prefer Aldi because of their larger variety of products, which means I can always find something new and interesting to try. Plus, their coconut-flavoured yogurt is delicious and I haven’t found the same thing in any other store! It’s definitely a must-try item, and we also love the garlic pizza bread which tastes similar to take away at a fraction of the price.”
Jen from Mighty Mama Bear’s Book Blog says: “I prefer Lidl and it’s always my supermarket of choice over the bigger supermarkets. They have capsules for our coffee machine for much cheaper than the branded version and the kids love their own brand crisps. I’ve always been impressed with the fresh fruit and veg too. I’ve noticed recently their seems to be more variety too.”
Joseph from Thrifty Chap weighs in on the Aldi vs Lidl debate with: “Lidl because of its awesome app. You can easily build towards money off your shop and bag free items too. I love the 30% discount on Lidl bakery items after 7pm.”
Vicky from More Than A Mummy says: “I prefer Aldi for its quality. My experience with their produce is always really positive and I especially love it for fresh meat and veg. The offers section is also brilliant with so many great seasonal products.”
Zoe from Grow With Zoe says: “I prefer Aldi for its range of high protein foods, such as the chocolate mousse, yoghurts, wraps, and granola. They’re cheaper than other stores and taste better than what Lidl have on offer. Aldi is also much easier for me to travel to and I find the staff are friendlier than other supermarkets.”
Ali from Pet Sitter Dashboard says: “I prefer Aldi because it’s great value for money and it has certain products which I love and are so much cheaper than the bigger supermarkets. Their fresh fruit and veg is amazing, for example their salad leaves are as good as Tesco but almost half the price. Their Titan bars are great and would stand up to a taste test with Mars, and they do some stir-in pasta sauces which are super-cheap and better than Asda or Sainsbury’s.”

I love their dupes which taste the same or better than the big brand equivalents that they emulate. For me one of the best things is that the quality of the products is just as good, if not better than anything from the other supermarkets so you don’t have to sacrifice taste for value.”
Melanie from Best Things To Do In Cambridge says: “I prefer Lidl for two reasons. Firstly they have a good range of ‘own brand’ vegetarian foods including tofu. Secondly- the bakery! Tempting freshly baked bread and pastries – delicious!”

You never know when there’s going to be something really cool or interesting on offer, that you might not see anywhere else. I’ve got classic middle-aisle syndrome!”

Also, I just found an organic Malbec for a fiver there today. It is a great place to find interest option of spirits and wine.”

I love finding weird and wonderful items in the middle of Lidl aisle. Lidl offers low prices on its complete range of goods, from Lidl wine to shampoo. There are no hidden traps.”

Nishi from Nishi V says: “As a vegan, I prefer Aldi as the quality of their fruit and veg is great, really well priced and I find it’s a lot fresher than the produce at Lidl. I love that you never know what you’ll find in there, and sometimes you can find some fab things in the middle aisles, be it food or homeware. They always have new products coming out in the plant menu frozen range and the vegan battered sausages in particular are incredible!”
And finally, the most important argument in the Aldi vs Lidl debate, Jen from Just Average Jen says “Lidl here has toilets and aldi doesn’t that’s enough to sway me.”
